About
Prashant Vaibhav is a student currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Jacobs University Bremen. Prashant completed his schooling in the city of Patna, India. He received several scholastic distinctions, including national and international level awards in Computer Science and related subjects. After finishing school, in 2005 he moved to Germany for higher education.
At Jacobs Prashant worked at the Psychology Lab until 2007, writing experiments and analysis software for eye-motion tracking hardware. In summer 2007, Prashant worked at the University of Gent in Belgium, as an intern in the area of psychoacoustics, electronic music and motion tracking, where he built interesting demos of motion-controlled virtual musical instruments and social dancing activities. He provided motion-tracking workshops and support during the International Summer School in Systematic Musicology during the same period. After returning to Germany, he worked at Algorithmica Technologies in Bremen, writing user interface software for fluid dynamics packages. Following this, Prashant took a break from academics to return to India. During this period he traveled, met people and conducted independent research in the field of operating system kernels. During summer 2009 Prashant worked with the FreeBSD project as a Google Summer of Code student, improving the FreeBSD kernel’s timing routines. In 2010 he worked on Mac OS X drivers for Intel wireless networking products.
Prashant’s research and career interests include system software, embedded device programming, human-computer interaction, wireless networking and music technology. Prashant’s strength lies in rapidly learning new technologies and applying the knowledge to build real products. Apart from computer engineering, Prashant also has an interest in usability and product design. He believes that simplicity is the essence, and that usability should take precedence over features.
Currently, Prashant has returned to Jacobs University to complete his undergraduate education. He expects to finish at the end of 2011. In his spare time, Prashant likes to travel, compose and perform music, and gaze at stars in the night sky (when weather allows).
